Chenin Blanc 2021 Magnum

Chenin Blanc 2021 Magnum is a natural wine crafted by Bencze, in the Balaton region in Hungary. This white wine is made with 100% Chenin Blanc grapes.

As for the expression? It’s electric. A sensational Chenin that is busting full of energy and precise mineralic hits.  There is a tension here that is absolutely incredible. You will love this!

For sure one of central Europe’s most exciting winemakers, Istvan Benzce has observed other zero-zero greats such as Strekov 1075 and become a master himself, with his wines selling out quickly thanks to their vibrancy and energy.

Chenin Blanc is of course not native to Hungary, and Istvan brought these vines to add to his 20 hectares in 2014. He ages the grapes for 1 year in a mix of Burgundy barrels and small clay amphora, and they are not topped up so develop a very thin layer of Flor that protects the wine from too much oxygen, and makes it slightly oxidative (although this is not really felt in the wine, as very minor). The wine is then transferred to larger old oak 1500 litre barrels after one year to age for a further 1.5 years.
