Mosel | Natural Wine from Mosel
In regards to Natural Wine, the Mosel region does not have many low-intervention producers, but this number is increasing. The Mosel valley is located in western Germany, along the Mosel River. This beautiful region is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and steep vineyards that cascade down the slopes of the river valley. Notable natural winemakers in the Mosel include Rudolf Trossen and Staffelter Hof - which is actually one of the oldest wineries in the world!
The Mosel region is mainly known for its production of Riesling grapes, which thrive in the region's cool climate. Riesling wines from this region are known for their exquisite balance of acidity and sweetness, with aromas of citrus, peach, and mineral notes. Additionally, Müller-Thurgau and Elbling are also grown in this region, adding diversity to the selection of wines produced. It is worth mentioning that the Mosel region holds the distinction of being one of the oldest wine regions in Germany, with records of viticulture dating back over 2,000 years. However, despite its rich winemaking history, there are very few natural winemakers in the area.
