Hani Sankt Laurent is a natural wine crafted by Ziniel, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This red wine is made with 100% Sankt Laurent grapes, which are grown on a single vineyard plot called Hani.
Here, poor gravel soils force the vines to go deep looking for water, which makes them work extra hard. This special bottle is complex and concentrated, and is Andreas Ziniel's most favoured wine.
Drinking the bottle with him over some Mangalitza pork spread on homemade bread, cherry tomatoes and onion pastries we had an absolute blast with it. It is indeed complex and showcases the beauty of Sankt Laurent, which Andreas Ziniel rightly claims is an underrated grape.
Here in Hani 2021, peppery aspects on the nose straight away remind you of an elegant Syrah and the edgy, vegetal hints give it a sense of wildness which mingle perfectly with dark forest fruits.
