Ancestral 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Hannes Bergdoll, in the Pfalz region in Germany. This fresh, fun and easy going Pet Nat sparkling wine is made with a blend of Weissburgunder and Silvaner grapes, which are aged for 30 months on the full yeast in the bottle. How is Bergdoll Ancestral made?

Made the méthode ancestrale way: the wine is bottled before fermentation finishes, so the bubbles are its own. What makes this one different is the time: 30 months on its lees in bottle before disgorging, which is long for a pet nat and gives that creamy, vanilla side alongside the fresh acidity.

Hannes Bergdoll

Hannes Bergdoll is a natural wine producer in the Pfalz region of Germany, sustainably farming and producing natural wines from Riesling, Scheurebe, Müller-Thurgau, and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) as well as other grapes at his winery in Landau-Wollmesheim. 

Hannes released his very first vintage in 2016, producing just 5000 bottles and has since adjusted his winemaking a lot, and now farms with holistic practices and experiements with oxidative wine techniques (see his Roter Traminer Sous Voile). We find the quality and pricepoint balance absolutely perfect and super excited to have his wines for you here on MORE Natural Wine.
