Demontre

Demontre is a natural wine crafted by La Gutina, in the Catalonia region in Spain. This red wine is made with both Grenache and Carignan grapes. This is 80% old vine Grenache 80% and 20% Carignan, known locally as Cariñena.

Production details of Demontre: Demontre is made by Joan Carles Torres and his wife Barbara at Celler La Gutina, set in the wild Aspres de l'Albera natural park in northeast Catalonia, just a few miles from the French border. The blend is 80% old-vine Grenache and 20% Carignan (locally Cariñena), grown on granitic sand and clay between 90 and 100 metres. Some Grenache vines date back to the 1950s when Joan's father replanted his own father's phylloxera-destroyed plot. The grapes are gently crushed and ferment in stainless steel with wild yeasts. No added sulphur.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Demontre by La Gutina, but we hear it has notes of dark cherry, blackberry, wild herbs, violet and a fine clay-mineral spice.
