Doolittle Oxy Rose 2024 is a oxidative rosé wine crafted by Vinyes Tortuga, in the Catalonia region in Spain, using Barbera! The wine sees time in slightly newer barrels and is not topped up, so develops a Flor (thin layer or veil of yeast) on the top of the wine, which protects it against too much oxygen but also allows some to affect the wine in this positive method, giving a very different characteristic.
Production details of Doolittle Oxy Rose: Doolittle Oxy Rose is made by Dido and Jurriaan Morsink at Vinyes Tortuga, a Dutch couple who settled in Alt-Empordà, Catalonia and bought 9.5 hectares of vineyards, releasing their first own-grape vintage in 2018. The wine is made from Barbera, aged in slightly newer barrels that are not topped up, so a flor develops on the surface and shapes the oxidative character. Wine names come from album titles and songs.
Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Doolittle Oxy Rose by Vinyes Tortuga, but we hear it has notes of bruised apple, dried citrus peel, almond and a savoury oxidative edge.
