Cuvée Marguerite 2024 is one of the most in demand and popular Matassa natural wines. It's made with Muscat Blanc de Petits Grains, Macabeu and Muscat of Alexandria (also known in Italy as Zibbibo).

Tom Lubbe of Domaine Matassa is one of the most talked about figures in European natural wine - and for very good reason. Based in the Roussillon at the southern tip of France, close to the Spanish border, Tom farms his vineyards with a lot of care ,with some vines over a century old. His wines manage to be simultaneously complex, aromatic, and (dangerously) very drinkable.

The vineyards sit on limestone, marl and schist soils shaped by strong Tramontane winds and cooling influences from the nearby Pyrenees, conditions that help preserve freshness and tension in this otherwise warm Mediterranean climate. Some of the vines used for Marguerite are very old, with naturally low yields that bring concentration without sacrificing energy.

For the 2024 vintage, the grapes underwent around 5 to 7 days of whole-bunch skin maceration before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine was then aged on its lees in large old 2,500-litre foudres, allowing texture and complexity to build slowly without overt oak influence. As always with Matassa, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered and with nothing added.

What makes Cuvée Marguerite so special is the balance between aromatic intensity and finesse. Despite the short skin contact, it delivers remarkable depth whilst staying light on its feet and incredibly drinkable. The result is one of our most in-demand bottles year after year, and the 2024 is exceptional.

Tasting Matassa 'Cuvée Marguerite' 2024

Hugely aromatic and tropical yet with a delicate, almost perfumed purity. Notes of candied orange peel, lychee, honey, almonds, camomile and soft pineapple, with a lovely tea-like finish. It is just fantastic.

And it evolves beautifully in a carafe, but also nice to see the difference temperature makes to it whether you serve it fridge cold or more ambient...

Brilliant with Thai food, light fish dishes, Asian salads, or simply on its own at dusk. A beautiful, beautiful wine we are sure you will love.
