Veralda are an Istrian producer in Croatia, and everything of theirs we carry is red.
San Giovanni Cuvée 2018 blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Teran, the native grape. Teran is deep blue-black and thick-skinned, which usually makes for a serious, tannic wine, and the Cabernet pulls some of that heaviness out so the blend stays almost summery. Refosco 2019 is the more classic serious red of the pair: plum, blackberry and blackcurrant rubbing against soil, earth, allspice and some apparent time in oak. A good introduction to Istrian red wine, where you taste both the sun and the cellar work.
