Calabria | Natural Wine from Calabria
In regards to Natural Wine, Calabria in the south of Italy is a region not so famous for natural wine production. Situated on the "toe" of the Italian boot, this region benefits from a Mediterranean climate but it is very hot indeed, and even in conventional wines there is not much praise of thwe region.
Some indigenous grape varieties of Calabria include Gaglioppo, Greco Nero, and Magliocco. These grapes yield wines that are known for their deep color, intense flavors, and robust tannins. Additionally, Calabria is also known for producing white wines from varieties like Greco Bianco and Malvasia, which when made naturally are often done with skin contact maceration, to make an orange wine.
