Who Is Dluhe Grefty?
Dluhe Grefty is a small family-run natural winery from Mutěnice in south Moravia, in the Czech Republic. They planted their first vineyard in 2008 and have sold their wines since 2015.
They work many small plots scattered around the village, which together add up to around six hectares of vines.
The wines are often experimental, wild and pure, and very drinkable. The labels draw on the family, and have made them some of the most recognisable bottles on our shelves.
Popular Dluhe Grefty Wines
The wines come in families. The Alba wines are the whites and skin-contact whites, such as Alba Mixtura, Alba Tilia and Alba Rosales (also in magnum). The Rubra wines are the reds, such as Rubra Mixtura, Rubra Paulina and Rubra Corona, and Rosa Mixtura sits in between.
Then there are the single-name bottles: Eva, Rufus, Non Grata and the Helena pet nat, named after his daughter.
The main grapes are Müller-Thurgau, Neuburger, St. Laurent, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Zweigelt, with a little Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir, often blended. Blends shift from year to year, so check the list below for what we have right now.
How Dluhe Grefty Wines Are Made
The vineyards are a patchwork of small plots around Mutěnice, which gives the family a wide mix of grapes and sites to blend from. Harvest and vineyard work are done by hand.
In the cellar fermentations are spontaneous, and many of the whites get time on their skins, which is where much of the texture and colour comes from.
The wines are made with little to no added sulphur. If a bottle has had a small dose, we say so on the product page.
