This is quite unusual, but the Weningers have been making wines since 1828 so when Hungary opened up it’s land in 1997 after it’s communist period, Franz Weninger’s father was one of the few allowed to purchase some parcels in Hungary’s Sopron region, which is deemed to be the birthplace of Blaufränkisch (also known locally as Kékfrankos).
