Jean-Pierre Robinot: Les Vignes de l'Ange Vin

A one-time Paris wine bar and magazine owner Robinot now farms around ten hectares of land across the Jasnières and Coteaux-du-Loire appellations in his native Loire Valley, France. His plots are solely planted to some of the Loire’s finest Chenin Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis using organic and biodynamic practices.
What more can be said about the legendary figure that is Jean-Pierre Robinot? Some would say Robinot gave natural wine, and the movement that came with it, the character and enthusiasm it was missing. One meeting with the man himself or with the wines and it’s not a surprise that his infectious energy transpires its way into every glass.

Robinot - A true force of nature!

Once harvested, Robinot is a purveyor of allowing the wine all of the time it requires and deserves to ferment and mature. The infamous underground limestone caves of the Loire provide the perfect setting for the wine to spend the months, even years, it needs on its lees in barrel before release. During this time the wines transform and Robinot is a master of playing with different top-up rates of the barrels where complexity from oxidation influences the wine in a mystical way.

The wines are split into two ranges: the Les Vignes de l’Ange Vin are made from plots that he owns and l’Opera des Vins are made from grapes also grown organically and biodynamically that are bought in. Quite simply, Robinot is a must-know producer - in more ways than one.
