NATURAL WINES BY KATLA WINES
Katla Wines is Jasmin 'Jas' Swan, who came to wine through restaurants, including two and a half years as a sommelier at Dill in Reykjavík. She made her first vintage, 2,500 litres, in Brauneberg on the Mosel in 2019, worked from the Staffelter Hof cellar, and is now based in Wöllstein, Rheinhessen. Most grapes come from friends like Andi Mann, Niklas Rückrich and Piri Naturel, plus a tiny plot of her own.
Jas often blends red and white grapes, uses PiWi varieties like Regent and Cabernet Blanc, and favours semi-carbonic macerations for light, often low-alcohol wines. Cuvées change every year, runs are often under 1,000 bottles, and labels feature drag queens she collaborates with. Look for Queendom, made with drag artist Pandora Nox, the Kiki pét-nat, the rosé-style Heks and the Pinot Noir Alison. Jas also runs Back of the Van, a travelling natural wine fair.
