Malvasia Blanco 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Cati Ribot, on the Mallorca island of Spain. This white wine is made with Malvasia grapes. The importer states that the Malvasia vines that grow at Cati Ribot on the clay marl soils of Santa Margalida are on the slender, herbaceous side: no plump, superficial fruit, nothing lush floral.
Cati's Malvasia reminded them most of Chardonnay from a cool climate: Lemons with peel, almonds, some butter and subtle herbs on the nose - then lively in the mouth, with noticeable but balanced acidity and great vibrancy. The length is then quite impressive with the rather restrained aroma. Really amazingly elegant for the Mediterranean climate, the whole thing.
The Malvasia is fermented in stainless steel and then comes in 500L oak barrels for 4 months. It is then bottled without filtration or sulphur.
Female wine producer Cati Ribot started making wines in 2029 on the island of Mallorca. With very low intervention in the cellar and total care in the vineyard she is respected for crafting clean, fresh wines that have a strong sense of place. Cati Ribot only uses old Mallorcan grape varieties, which even on the island people have forgotten, such as Callet, Fogoneu, Prensal blanc, Malvasia, Gorgollassa, Escursac, Giró Ros and Callet Negrella.
