AEIOU 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Christian Tschida, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This white wine is made with Chardonnay grapes, which are taken from a very special plot in his Leithaberg vineyards and grown with a double root stock system whereby the vines fight for nutrients, resulting in a higher quality but lower yield.

AEIOU Chardonnay, special plot

This parcel is really quite special and beautiful too. The row starts at  115m altitude and rises up to 240m. There are different topsoils throughout, and walking up the hill, you really do see the changes from Limestone at the bottom, to Schist and then Quartz later at the top. A forest at the highest point helps keep the climate cooler with the wind flowing down towards the lake Neusiedel, so this is the highest point that there can be on the slope, which means the grapes retain acidity and freshness.

A.E.I.O.U. – "Loved by some who know, loathed by others" (Christian Tschida)

Quite frankly, this harder to find, prized Christian Tschida wine  A.E.I.O.U is an absolute revelation. Crisp and fresh and yet so complex, somewhat herbal and truly special. We strongly sugges to decant for best results as sometimes the reduction can show strong. 45 minutes if recommended. Share with good friends.

Tasting AEIOU by Christian Tschida

This is a special wine, that deserves a carafe. Serve it chilled in the carafe, give it a swirl and wait 15-20 minutes to start pouring. You will be greeted with mineralic precision and Christian Tschida's signature herbal note found it all of his white wines. Expect unique notes of pickled cucumber, lemon zest, nettle and a web pebble style minerality. Truly incredible. Carafe and be rewarded!

Winemaker's Note

Winemaker’s note: Single vineyard, single barrel. The brilliance of a single Chardonnay-plot from a lustrous vintage, planted on rare schist rock in double sticks. The direct and extreme competition of the two vines grown side by side, closely together like twins, forces them to root into deeper layers of the soil in the endeavour to find water and nutrients and to pick up loads of minerals. The yield of both twin-vines together compares to only one regularly planted vine. The smaller and loose-hanging grapes are full of concentrated aroma and balanced acidity and guarantee minerality and freshness at a high level of ripeness. A.E.I.O.U. – Loved by some who know, loathed by others

Grapes: 100% Chardonnay

Vineyard: Single vineyard, schist

Making of: Grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed with the power of a
handshake. Aged in a single big barrel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, without
added sulfur

NATURAL WINES BY CHRISTIAN TSCHIDA

Christian Tschida is a cult-favorite natural winemaker from Austria’s Burgenland region.
A bit of a perfectionist and known for keeping a low profile, he prefers to let his wines do the talking—and they’ve earned him a devoted following worldwide. His vineyards, mostly tended with the help of a horse, are as stunning as they are full of life. Some of his standout bottles include the Himmel auf Erden range, Non-Tradition, Kapitel l, and his iconic Tschida Brutal Wine—a Pinot Noir with a wild, forest-like depth that reminds us of a great Burgundy. Whether it’s Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, or Blaufränkisch, his wines are something special, which is why you’ll find them in some of the best restaurants around the world.
