I Forestieri
“I Forestieri” translates roughly as “the outsiders” or “the strangers”, a fitting name given that both Dario and Ezequiel arrived in Tuscany’s Maremma from elsewhere. Over the years, they have spent time learning from elderly growers and farmers in the remote hill villages of the Alta Maremma, listening to the people who have worked this landscape for generations.
Piece by piece, Dario and Ezequiel have brought together around five hectares of old vineyard plots, many of which had previously been neglected or abandoned. The vineyards sit across schist, sand, clay and marl.
Many of the plots are extremely small and retain the traditional Etruscan practice of “agricoltura promiscua”, where different varieties grow together rather than being separated into single-variety blocks. Red grapes include Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Montepulciano and Grenache, while the white varieties include Trebbiano, Malvasia, Moscato and Ansonica.
