NATURAL WINES BY LA GUTINA
Celler La Gutina belongs to Joan Carles Torres and Bàrbara Magugliani in Sant Climent Sescebes, in the Alt Empordà corner of Catalonia, at the foot of the Albera mountains near the French border. Their 80-hectare estate mixes vineyards with meadows, olive groves, cork oak forest and ancient dolmens. The vines grow on granite sand at around 90 to 100 metres without irrigation, and the oldest Grenache dates from the 1950s and 60s. They restarted winemaking around 2010.
All the vineyard work is done by hand, they use only their own grapes and they have no consultant oenologist. Wild yeasts ferment the wines in steel tanks, and nothing is added, sulphur included. Grenache in its white, grey and black forms is the heart of the estate, with some Carignan alongside. We stock Idò, a light, lively Grenache red, and Demontre, a blend of old-vine Grenache and Carignan.
