NATURAL WINES BY KAMARA PURE
Kamara Pure is the natural range of the Kioutsoukis family, farming 11 hectares on the Mygdonia slopes 30 km from Thessaloniki. The family came from Eastern Rumelia on the Black Sea in the early 1900s, and Dimitrios Kioutsoukis founded the winery in 2010. The vines sit at around 140 metres on an old seabed of clay, sand and schist, mostly Xinomavro, Assyrtiko and Malagousia.
Vines are hoed and picked by hand and treated with nettle and yarrow. Wines ferment with wild yeasts and age in old barriques or clay amphorae, and the Pure range gets no added sulphur. Start with Nimbus Albus, Assyrtiko and Malagousia, or Shadow Play White. Their Retsina uses a little Aleppo pine resin from Evia, and Keramos Amphora Red blends Xinomavro and Limnio.
