Natural Red Wine
Natural red wines come in many different styles - which means there's a natural red out there for everyone! Fruity and uncomplicated glouglou reds are light and with very little tannin - i.e. smashable, and are the perfect companion to a picnic or barbeque. Then there are aromatic reds, such as those made from Cabernet Franc or Carignan, that delight the nose as much as they do the palate. Then there are the structured, complex reds with more tannins, suitable for (and often improved by) ageing and able to stand up to a hearty meal - think Syrah.
When it comes to grapes, natural winemakers tend to focus on indigenous grapes more than conventional winemakers, so alongside well-known grapes such as Pinot Noir and Sangiovese, you'll also see ones like Bobal, Saint Laurent, Pineau D'Aunis, and Frappato.
