Skin Contact
Skin contact wine (nowadays often called orange wine) is essentially white wine, made in the way red wine is made - with the grape skins, during and sometimes even after fermentation. This gives the wine more tannins, flavour and - of course - colour! Skin contact wines can range anywhere in colour from a soft, golden yellow to an electric orange.
As opposed to white wines without skin contact, skin contact wines can often have more herbal and aromatic notes or bitter touches, all depending on the grape used, the level of maceration, and the duration of skin contact.
Whether it's full and complex Gewürztraminer from Alsace or a fun and fruity number from Spain, it's time to grab a bottle from producers such as Radikon, Vinos Ambiz, Jean Marc Dreyer, Le Coste and loads more.
