Little Bastard from Staffelter Hof is a vibrant and refreshing white wine from the Mosel valley in Germany. It's called a 'bastard' because it's a blend of Riesling and Sauvignon blanc, which is super unusual in the Mosel Valley, as most people grow just Riesling and the idea to blend such a previous Mosel grape with anything else is generally unheard of!
Generally you can expect differences between the Little Bastard wine vintages, but usually this wine features big grapefruit vibes with lots of salty, chalky elements. It's quite zippy and refreshing, with high energy and often sour fruit aspects dominate.
Sometimes the Little Bastard wine from Staffelter Hof can have a little extra skin/contact, giving it a orange colour, but generally it|s usually white.
Staffelter Hof is actually one of the oldest registered wineries in the whole word, dating back to to 862 AD making it almost 1200 years old! It used to be run by monks, farming the steep slopes of the Mosel valley with a donkey.
The legend goes that a wolf once killed the donkey, and rather than kill the wolf, the monks captured it and forced it to do the donkey's hard work helping the monks farm the steep vines! This is why there is a wolf on most of the Staffelter Hof labels, including Little Bastard.
