Patrice Béguet farms around four hectares in Mesnay, near Arbois. His estate wines, released under the Domaine Hughes Béguet label, are grown on his own plots in the Jura AOC, including parcels on the famed Côte de Feule in Pupillin.
Straight No Chaser is a direct-pressed blend of 60% Chardonnay, 20% Ploussard, and 20% Savagnin: three native Jura varieties vinified together as a white and aged in a combination of stainless steel, egg vessels, and old oak with no sulphites added.
We have not yet tried this wine but hear it is straight and tense on the palate, exactly as the name promises. The nose is meant to move between citrus and apple, with ginger and a thread of sweet spice woven through. On the palate we expect it to be fresh, persistent, and precise.
Patrice Béguet left a career as an IT consultant in Paris to return to Mesnay, near Arbois in the Jura, where he was born. Demeter certified. Around four hectares of holisitic estate vines — Ploussard, Trousseau, Savagnin, and Chardonnay — including plots on the famed Côte de Feule in Pupillin and Les Corvées. Zero synthetics in the vineyard. Natural fermentation. No added sulphites. Every wine is named after a piece of music he loves.
