Patrice Béguet's Big Bunch Theory 'Fresh Impression' Red 2023 is the red sibling of Fresh Impression White. Same philosophy as the white, high quality fruit sourced from producers Patrice trusts across France, blended at his Jura cellar, with the label painted by Aya Sato. Different grapes, same spirit of cross-regional experimentation. Here with Fresh Impression Red he uses Grenache, Gamay plus a little Mourvedre and Ploussard
60% Grenache from Claude Ughetto in Provence, 30% Gamay from Domaine Landron Chartier in Loire, and 10% of other varieties including Poulsard and even Mouvedre.
No added sulphites at any stage.
We have not yet tried this wine but we hear the Grenache brings warmth and dark cherry; the Gamay brings freshness, lift, and a lively energy that stops the wine from ever feeling heavy. Together people say they make something genuinely easy to drink without being simple. Red and dark berry fruit, a touch of spice, and a bright, clean finish. This is the kind of red you open mid-week with no ceremony at all.
Patrice Béguet left a career as an IT consultant in Paris to return to Mesnay, near Arbois in the Jura, where he was born. He took the wine diploma at Beaune and now farms around four hectares of Jura vines; Ploussard, Trousseau, Savagnin, and Chardonnay under the estate label Domaine Hughes Béguet. His ‘Big Bunch Theory’ négociant series sources fruit from trusted producers across France, creating experimental cross-regional blends. Every label in the Big Bunch Theory range is painted by artist Aya Sato.
