"Vivanterre" Gamay 2019 is a now nicely aged, natural wine vinified by Justine Loiseau and Patrick Bouju of Domaine la Boheme, in the Auvergne region in France. This red wine is made with Gamay grapes, which are sourced from three different plots, including one in Auvergne, making it a Gamay d'Auvergne, which is slightly different to Beaujolais gamay

Where are the grapes from in Vivanterre Gamay 2019?

The main source for Vivanterre Gamay is in Moulin au Vent, a Beaujolais parcel of 65-year-old vines, planted on pink granite. The vineyard is a total of 1.6 hectares.

A second vineyard in Brouilly provides around 30% of the grapes. It is a south facing vineyard that has deep clay soils rich in limestone. Both The Moulin au Vent and Brouilly vineyards are farmed by Julian Betrand.

The last vineyard is owned and farmed by Patrick and Justine, in their home region of Auvegerne. The grapes are planted on granite rich soils laced with quartz.

Winemaking Process

The wine making is whole cluster fermentation, aged in a combination of clay
amphorae and used oak barrels with no fining, no filtering and no added SO2 at any phase of winemaking.

Tasting Vivanterre 2019 Gamay Rouge by Patrick Bouju

Wow. This Gamay has signature notes of Patrick Bouju all over it! Complex, juicy, earthy, interesting, vibrant and energetic. We enjoyed notes of plum, forest floor and baked apples with a hint of herbs. Sensational, and especially now drinking in September 2024 that is has had time to age.
